Life as a Hawaiian Czarina

Creating looks that combine vintage pieces with modern attire is one of my favorite style moments. I would never have thought to pair this oversized vintage hat with this Christian Siriano dress, and yet, when I happened to lay them out together, I was suddenly inspired. One might think it’s a weird combination, but I absolutely love it. Have you ever made up an entire story to go with your outfit? I created a whole persona to go with this… kind of a Hawaiian Czarina wandering around NYC. She walks along the East River each morning and likes to make a statement wherever she goes. Lol.

I purchased this vintage hat from my friends Vintage Dress Company in Virginia. I had seen a really amazing green hat on a previous visit, slept on it, and went back to get it. To my disappointment, it was gone. I had been building all kinds of looks around that hat in my head, so I was really bummed out that it was sold. As an impulse to console myself, I purchased this gorgeous, oversized floral hat. It has crystal embellishments and a unique fit. Though I did not realize what a gem it was at the time, this hat has turned out to be one of my most memorable pieces. I receive inquiries about it all the time. Yes. It’s EXTRA AF, which makes it even more charming in my eyes. Shopping serendipity strikes at the best of times.

I purchased this Christian Siriano dress last fall. I have loved him as a designer ever since he appeared on Project Runway, and was excited to finally own some of his work. I love that he embraces women of all sizes! His pieces fit like a dream and he makes even a jersey fabric like this one feels incredibly luxe. As a curvy girl, I cannot express how wonderful it is to feel like something off the rack fits you well, especially in the chest. The most beautiful part about this number? Christian Siriano has a collection of dresses available on Rent the Runway which allows accessibility to everyone.
