Bright Lights, Big City Street Style

MEG_0316.jpg

Moving to New York City has absolutely had an effect on my street style. My former ensembles used to fall into one of three categories: sparkly, colorful, or preppy. Sometimes all of the above. I don’t think I ever considered street style to be my forte. I think part of me used to like to shine brightly but was still hesitant to deviate from TRADITIONAL STYLE. I have found that street style is such an incredible way to express yourself! It’s all about creating your own rules, and feeling comfortable and confident in your own choices.

When I first saw this adorable Kate Spade rugby top, I knew that I wanted to pair it with something voluminous and elegant, sort of a contrast between sportswear and whimsy. It’s reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw in the Adore Dior top and Zac Posen skirt. This midi, brocade skirt was perfect, especially with the added tulle half slip peeking out. Adding little touches can really change the entire look. I was torn between heels and flats, and since these adorable sneakers matched perfectly, I had my answer. The top is cropped which is not entirely my taste. For those of us who aren’t currently feeling an exposed midriff, I have found that pairing it with a high waisted skirt or pant can create a very flattering silhouette.

This little outfit was so comfortable (hello sneakers!) and a breeze to trot around in. It made me smile. The most important thing to remember about street style is have fun!

Xoxo, Mary
