Hi, I’m Mary!

Welcome to Glam in Gotham! For those of you former Seersucker Optional followers, welcome back! And for those of you new to my fashion journey, allow me to introduce myself. I’m a Jersey girl who has spent most of her adult life living in Washington, DC with my husband Nate and two dogs (Mickey and Minerva). While we loved our colorful jaunts around Capitol Hill, we have finally come home to nest in NYC, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to finally call myself a New Yorker.

My life’s aim is to fill each day with whimsy and color! I plan to dedicate this blog as my love letter to New York, and more importantly to fanciful style in all its forms.

I previously ran a small preppy blog called Seersucker Optional - while I’ve ceased posting there since the move, you can still read some of my favorite archives here. I plan to bring you even more color and vibrant style here at Glam in Gotham, and I’m so excited to share this wild ride with you all! You can expect an editorial edge with the same trademark fluff and sequins, plus my perspective on life in NYC, tips and tricks for all your vintage finds, and so much more. Stay tuned!

FAQ’s

  1. Why Move from DC to NYC?

We made the decision to relocate for several reasons: At this point in our lives (jointly and as individuals) New York is a better fit for both of our careers. Not to mention, with my family in NJ, it allows us to be closer to my parents and brother and sister in law. Nate and I have always shared a love for this city. For this new chapter, it was the obvious choice for both of us.

  2. Are you a full time Blogger?

Yes and no! While I try to give each project I take on 100%, I own my own event consulting business specializing in meetings, conferences, and tradeshows as my main source of revenue. With this new iteration, I plan to invest much more time and energy in the blog while keeping my business and even more new ventures alive along the way.

  3. Who takes your photographs?

My dutiful “Instagram” (and real life!) husband Nate shot all the photos for Seersucker Optional, while I did all of my own editing. Glam in Gotham is shot by a series of photographers, though I do a considerable amount of work with the incredible and talented Lydia Hudgens.

  4. How would you describe your style?

When asked to describe my style, the first word to come to mind is always: colorful!  I believe in adding a witty twist to my looks whenever possible (you often can find me trotting around town in Kate Spade taxi flats and who doesn’t love a novelty handbag?) Every piece of my clothing makes a statement towards a little piece of my personality- I wear my heart on my sleeve (sometimes literally)!

  5. Do you ever wear black?

Rarely! As a new New Yorker, some dutiful darker pieces and black articles of clothing have crept into my wardrobe, overall I like to keep it colorful. On even the darkest days,  a bright look or a bold lip instantly brightens my mood and puts a spring in my step. I hardly wear black, but it’s simply because colorful calls to me!
